A Matter of Trust
January 25, 2008
Robert Nozick sees freedom in serious trouble with most presidential candidates.
Politicians cannot be purists (and voters wouldn’t vote for them if they were). But the cause of liberty is not about elaborate political theories, or at least not only about them. It is also about trust: Parents grant freedom to their children to the degree that they trust them. It is therefore dispiriting to see so many candidates display so little faith that Americans can solve problems without someone standing behind them with a stack of marching orders and a whip.
With candidates like these, who needs terrorism?
